What is a Domain Name?

A domain name is a unique Internet address that can be used for web hosting, e-mail, etc. It allows you to send and receive information at your customized e-mail address. It is your company’s identity on the World Wide Web (www). If your organization is Your Company, Inc., you could register the domain name of yourcompany.com and your e-mail address could be you@yourcompany.com.

Why do I need a domain name?

Domain names are limited and going fast. A domain name allows your customers to find you at your unique address on the www.. By reserving your name with EHNet now, you can be assured that the name you want will be available when you are ready to use it - next week, next month or next year.

What is a Top Level Domain (TLD)?

Every domain name consists of at least two parts. They are of equal importance when someone is trying to find you. ie. yourcompany.TLD. The .TLD represents the Top Level Domain. A TLD is one of the following: com - commercial (most businesses) net - network, infrastructure or machine org - organizations, associations edu - educational institutions mil - military addresses gov - governmental agencies //// - country codes like .to or .us

How long can the name be?

Yourcompany is a second level domain and cannot exceed 22 characters. The entire domain name including the .com can not exceed 26 characters. The only valid characters for a domain name are letters, numbers and a hyphen.

Why can’t I just register my domain myself?

InterNIC requires that each domain name be associated with at least 2 name servers to be registered. By associating our nameservers with your domain name, you meet the "active" domain requirement.

Who owns the domain name reserved by EHNet?

You do. You will be setup as the administrative and billing contacts and EHNet can be your technical contact. By listing you as the administrative contact, you have complete control over your domain.

How long can I keep a name with EHNet?

Indefinitely. You may park your domain with us as long as you like. You also have the freedom to move your domain at anytime to any other service provider that you choose at no additional charge. When you create your web site and need a place to host it, EHNet will credit your $5 toward the setup of any account you choose.

How long does it take to register my domain name?

EHNet is an InterNIC Partner and has a 24 hour turn around time. Once we receive your request, we will process it quickly. Once we receive confirmation we will inform you by e-mail. We suggest that you do not publish or advertise your new address until you have received this confirmation.

The domain name I want is taken, what do I do?

You can contact the owner of the name you want and offer to buy it. Or, you can try different variations of the requested name. For example, your-company.com, yourcompany4u.com or any other variation of what you want. Remember, information to the left of the .com is not case sensitive so variations in capitalization will not work. YOURcompany.com won’t work if yourcompany.com is already taken.
